In 2025 you can once again be part of an experience of a lifetime at the auditorium of St. Margarethen Quarry. This time, Richard Wagner’s masterpiece, The Flying Dutchman, enchants its audience with spectacular stage elements, grandiose melodies and a dramatic story.

On the rugged coast of the Norwegian fjords, Senta, the captain’s daughter, daydreams about a sailor doomed to eternal life, who can only be freed from the curse by love. When her father returns with a stranger, Senta recognizes him as the legendary Flying Dutchman and decides to redeem him, while Erik, her old love, tries helplessly to prevent this. On the night the crew of the strange ship disembarks, a series of eerie phenomena begins. In Wagner’s creepy opera, the Quarry once again becomes a perfect setting, with its monumental limestone walls and the evening starry sky.
